Silver sculpture “Frau auf Block” by Susanne Kraißer

A young woman sits on a plain, angular block, her legs drawn up, her gaze lowered and turned slightly to one side, one hand propped on the block, the other wrapped around her knees. The pose has something of the world-famous Little Mermaid in Copenhagen – the same pensive, inward-looking posture, the same seat on the edge of a plinth, as if the figure had just paused. Except that, unlike her Danish counterpart, Kraißer’s woman remains entirely human: with two legs and feet instead of a tail, and with the deliberately rough, fragmentary surface typical of the artist, which lends the harmonious overall form an earthy presence.

What colour is to painting, the figure originally is to sculpture – and “Frau auf Block” is an immediate reminder of that origin. Susanne Kraißer, trained at the academies in Nürnberg and Bremen, arrives here at a wilful, free modern visual language that nevertheless stays close to our unconscious cultural experience of body and posture.

At BullionArt the sculpture is available in two versions: as a lighter hollow silver cast with around 2.0 kg of fine silver, or as a considerably more substantial solid silver cast with around 6.6 kg of fine silver – both approximately 25 cm high, created in 2011 and each limited to 18 numbered pieces.

Please note: the price of silver is subject to market fluctuations; the final sale price is based on the prevailing fine silver price and will be quoted on request.
