Kinetic art in solid silver: the sculpture “Twister”
Created in 2010, “Twister” by the sculptor Maximilian Verhas is an outstanding example of the fusion of kinetic form and a precious metal that holds its value. In his endeavour to refine the movement of his rolling bodies through ever new variations of form, Maximilian Verhas developed the series of sculptures known as the “Wavers”. Their characteristic shape, reminiscent of waves or billows, makes the dynamism inherent in them immediately visible and gives the objects a particular liveliness.
It is precisely this formal language, shaped almost entirely by sweeping lines, that presents a great challenge for the sculptor. As the sculptures work with hardly any straight surfaces, they are difficult to control during the making and demand a high degree of experience and precision.
Made by the demanding solid silver casting process from approx. 2.2 kilograms of solid fine silver (999), the object captivates with its intertwined, flowing geometries. With a height of approx. 12.5 cm and a length of approx. 18.5 cm, this sculpture — limited to 25 signed and numbered pieces worldwide — is an exclusive synthesis of contemporary art and a physical precious metal investment.
