Hidden value: Oyster by Pierre-Paul Maillé

From the outside, “Oyster” appears rugged, closed, almost incidental – a form that at first eludes the eye. Yet depending on the angle, ever new views open up in the joint between the two elements: sometimes a narrow gap, sometimes an unexpected opening that reveals the interior. Here Pierre-Paul Maillé deliberately plays with open and closed glimpses that arise from the different viewing angles – much like a real oyster, which looks unspectacular from the outside and reveals its true worth only within.

It is precisely this unassuming, rugged surface that makes “Oyster” perhaps the best hiding place in the entire gallery programme: beneath the rough, almost casual shell lie around 6.3 kg of pure fine silver. With a height of 21 cm, the work is limited to just 9 signed and numbered examples – one of the more exclusive editions in Pierre-Paul Maillé’s programme.

Please note: the silver price is subject to market fluctuations; the final sale price is based on the prevailing price of fine silver and will be advised on request.
