Itzamna – the god who captured writing and time in silver
Ancient knowledge, cast in ancient silver: this small sculpture embodies Itzamna, the Maya god who once taught his people writing, the healing arts and the calendar. As god of the sun and the sky he ruled over day and night – a figure who unites knowledge and the forces of nature in a single form. An appealing thought: the silver from which this small talisman was cast might itself once have come from Mexico, the homeland of the Maya.
The sculpture is a solid silver cast in pure fine silver, created in 2006. At a height of approx. 9.7 cm, Itzamna is a compact yet weighty object (0.275 kg of fine silver) – with no fixed edition limit.
