The stock market duel in silver: Bulle & Bär by Raimund Schmelter

The pair of sculptures “Bulle & Bär” by Raimund Schmelter is a homage to the world-famous original in front of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Reduced to a few clearly cut surfaces, the two animals face each other in characteristic poses: the bull with its head raised and its horns ready to attack, the bear with its head lowered, ready to strike downwards.

Exactly how the two animals became globally recognised stock market symbols has not been precisely recorded. A common explanation today refers to the different fighting behaviour of the two animals in the staged fights said to have taken place near the London and Amsterdam stock exchanges in the 17th century. While the bull tries to catch its opponents on its horns in an upward movement, the bear strikes downwards with its paws. The bull therefore stands for rising prices and economic upswing – one speaks of a bull market and describes optimists who buy shares as bullish. The bear, by contrast, symbolises falling prices: if the stock market is broadly in the red, this is a bear market, and investors who bet on falling prices are regarded as bearish. (Source)

With three different weight sizes – 2.3 kg, 3.2 kg and 4.4 kg total weight per pair – every collector and investor can decide for themselves how “bullish” they are about the future development of silver. All sizes are limited to 30 numbered examples each. The large pair is sold out.

Please note: the silver price is subject to market fluctuations; the final sale price is based on the prevailing price of fine silver and will be advised on request.
