Born in 1950, the sculptor Raimund Schmelter first trained as a goldsmith before his strong interest in reduced, stylised representations led him to the fine arts. His work is characterised by the art of abstraction and by a concentration on essential features. Today he lives and works in Ober Kostenz in the Hunsrück, where he runs a studio in a former rectory together with Dorothea Heine and several cats.
Exhibitions in Essen, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Nürnberg, Leipzig, Mallorca, Salzburg, Modena, Tokio and Los Angeles.
