Tension in equilibrium: Balance by Kuno Vollet

Finely balanced, this sculpture seems almost to float and, despite the massiveness of its arcs, radiates a stunning lightness. “Balance” by Kuno Vollet lives on precisely this contrast: a condensed point of contact at the centre on the one hand, and the wide, weightless-seeming expanse of the three silver arcs on the other.

The title says it all: “Balance” describes not so much a standstill as an equilibrium in motion, a pause between tension and release. As a solid silver cast with a length of 40 cm, a height of 19 cm and a width of 20 cm, the work weighs in at around 11.6 kg of pure fine silver – one of the weightier and more space-filling editions in the programme. The edition is limited to 18 signed and numbered examples.
